Alexandre Lagoya

Alexandre Lagoya (1929-1999) was a French classical guitarist renowned for his exceptional technique and expressive performances. He primarily specialized in classical guitar music, contributing significantly to both the repertoire and popularization of the instrument in the 20th century. Lagoya studied under notable figures, including the legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia. He gained recognition for his collaborations with various musicians, including his wife, the celebrated guitarist and composer, Ida Presti. Together, they enriched the classical guitar duo repertoire, performing and recording works by composers such as J.S. Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Joaquín Rodrigo. Among his notable recordings are the "Concerto de Aranjuez," which he performed with orchestras, and his interpretations of Villa-Lobos’ pieces that remain influential. Lagoya's virtuosic style, coupled with his ability to convey deep emotion, helped elevate the status of the classical guitar, inspiring future generations of players.
